Students Are Back at a Social Distance

August 31st marked the first day of school for the 6th grade students of Evergreen Middle School. Kids got to participate in exciting classes like Archery, Survival, Thinking Like a Scientist, Initiatives, Explore Time, What Lives Here? and Team Building. Site staff says they're so proud of everyone for following health guidelines by wearing masks, social distancing and washing their hands. And everyone agrees, it feels so good to have students back on site again.

Runkel Named Interim Deputy Executive Director

Mary Runkel has been named Interim Deputy Executive Director for the Outdoor Lab Foundation following the departure of current Executive Director, Paige Brophy.

Serving as Marketing and Development Associate and then Marketing and Community Relations Manager since April of 2019, Mary has a strong nonprofit background, as well as a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado. She’s looking forward to serving in this critical role.

Westerra Credit Union Donates

High School Leader Hoodies

Did you know Westerra Credit Union was formed by eight school teachers in the 30's? In 1934, they pooled their funds to be able to make loans to other teachers. Their purpose then was to put members first when offering financial services and treat them as valued owners. Their mission today is still the same.

Westerra is heavily involved in their communities, serving the counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas and more. They believe it's important to make a difference in the lives of the individuals and families that use their credit unions. They value community.

This year, Westerra is helping OLF provide one of the greatest gifts they can to High School Leaders. High School Leaders donate over 100 hours of their time and truly make this program happen each year. When students are asked what they remember most about Outdoor Lab, they always say “my High School Leader”. OLF, with partners like Westerra Credit Union, is proud to provide a small token of appreciation, a cozy hoodie to be worn during and after the experience. Menchies of Arvada (click here for map) has graciously offered to give 20% of their proceeds back to Outdoor Lab Foundation on Sunday, September 13. They care just as much about kids attending Outdoor Lab as we do, and that says a lot. **BE SURE TO MENTION OUTDOOR LAB FOUNDATION!** so they know where to send the donation.

Fall 2020 Interns Update

Odell Brewing Company partners with charitable programs that serve their communities; they seek organizations that engage their staff and fans in their philanthropic efforts. Odell specifically focuses their efforts in the fields of human services, education and environment. Outdoor Lab Foundation was to be chosen as their Summer Charitable Partner!

As of July 1, OLF is featured in both Odell tap rooms, located in Fort Collins and Denver's RiNo neighborhood. Odell is helping support the Outdoor Lab program and Foundation through advocacy and financial contributions. Be sure to stop by one of their locations to see how they are launching the Outdoor Lab Foundation's mission even farther. We are humbled to partner with an amazing national brand.

Talk about grit and dedication! Both Mount Evans and Windy Peak Outdoor Lab have a full set of amazing interns ready for a wonderful semester. Site staff and interns alike are learning about what it means to lead with safety measures in place.

Outdoor Lab may look different this year, but what doesn’t? The goal of the sites is for kids to have fun and explore like never before. They want to make it an unforgettable experience.
