Meet Our Summer Interns

Thea and Evelin

Summer for the Outdoor Lab Foundation looks a little different than the school year. While Windy Peak and Mt. Blue Sky reset until the fall, the Foundation spends the summer connecting with the community through outreach events like Outside Days and Buffalo Bill Days, organizing volunteer projects at both lab school sites, and managing our daily operations.

This summer, our team is joined by two high school interns. Both came to us via Jeffco Workforce, a county-based organization whose mission is to connect residents with jobs and provide resources for local businesses. We are thrilled to have these young leaders on our team and would like to introduce them to our community.

Meet Thea

Thea is a rising senior at Wheat Ridge High School. Last school year, she served as a high school leader at Outdoor Lab with North Arvada Middle School. Through that experience, she fell in love with both the Outdoor Lab program and working with kids. Teaching and mentoring was such a joyful, meaningful experience that it inspired her to do even more to support the Outdoor Lab Schools.

Thea first learned about the Outdoor Lab Foundation through another organization where she volunteers. When her school’s career hub coordinator suggested an internship with the Foundation, she knew it would be the perfect opportunity to stay connected to a program she loves while building her professional skill set. She is excited to continue honing her leadership and creative skills this summer, and she deeply values opportunities to give back to her community.

In the future, Thea hopes to serve as an intern at one of the Outdoor Lab Schools after graduation. She is also interested in entering a criminal justice program to pursue a career in forensics or criminal profiling.

Meet Evelin

Evelin is a rising senior at Arvada High School. She also connected with Jeffco Workforce through her school's career hub coordinator, which ultimately brought her to the Outdoor Lab Foundation. Her very first experience with Outdoor Lab was through the I Have a Dream Foundation, when she visited Windy Peak and got to try archery—her favorite activity of the trip.

Through this internship, Evelin is excited to learn more about the nonprofit sector and the impactful work organizations like ours do. She hopes to gain real-world job experience, develop workplace skills, and build a network for her future career. Evelin is also interested in serving as a high school leader or school intern down the road. After high school, she plans to earn a degree in radiology and work as an X-ray technician in a hospital setting.

A Summer of Impact

Both Thea and Evelin have already supported a wide variety of learning experiences. So far, they have helped prepare and execute "weed and seed" events at both lab school sites, set up and run booths at community outreach events, supported trail maintenance, managed contact logs, and created new communication materials for the upcoming school year. They jump enthusiastically into every task and are wonderful ambassadors for Outdoor Lab and the Foundation!
