Mt. Blue Sky Volunteer Workday

Saturday, July 27, 2024
8:00 am3:00 pm

Help repair the Initiatives Course for the upcoming schoolyear!

What you'll do:
On this project of approximately 10 volunteers, you'll work together on the Mt. Blue Sky low ropes challenge course (a.k.a. Initiatives Core Class). Volunteers will be spreading pea gravel, shoring up small retaining walls, and rebuilding platforms out of composite decking.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Though, you are welcome to bring your own pair of work gloves if you prefer. Volunteers must wear close-toed shoes. Long pants are recommended but not required. The Outdoor Lab Foundation is happy to provide lunch for all volunteers. When you register for the workday, you can let us know if you have a specific diet or allergies; we are happy to accommodate.

Why it's important:

Founded in 1957, Outdoor Lab exposes youth to the outdoors and develops passion and competencies in environmental awareness and conservation. However, the low ropes course known as "Initiatives" at Mt. Blue Sky, has experienced heavy wear and tear, making certain elements unstable, slippery, and overdue for much-needed maintenance work. Your efforts will make this course safer for the 2,500 sixth-grade students who visit Mt. Blue Sky every year - many of whom are participating in a low ropes course for the very first time!
